“We definitely need more powerful Christian rap music to be on the airwaves.” These are the words of Kamal Smith, Midwest’s Christian rapper. His style and flow is no cookie cutter model in the Christian rap genre. Kamal ministry and music are uniquely connected and speaks a strong message even to the unbelievers. After experiencing the life of crime until the age of thirty, he had made a promise to God to rededicate his life, go to church and preach to individuals who have overlooked the positive outlook of their lives. He’s always on the grind, rocking and pushing shows, recording new heat, as well as running RhymeCorp (the movement) and RhymeCorp Studios.
Kamal and his Midwest Rhyme collaboration of various Christian key players, demonstrate quality in production, relevancy to the hip hop culture and value in their message. They express their love for God in their own unique way but powerful enough to spark the hip hop fans’ attention. Kamal started in the area in which he lives “The Midwest” and began laying a foundation for this project by building relationships. He began asking producers and artists of any sort to donate to movement and they did. Now three years later we can see the fruits of the labor we all worked hard to produce. One of the concepts behind the album is to attempt to tear down the walls that divide us, while letting everyone know that the Midwest has some real emcees. The ultimate goal is that people will draw closer to God as a result of the gospel message being released over hot beats.
