Love for Music and Comic Books: Exclusive Interview – RnB Artist, Jermaine Riley @supersays

Jermaine Riley, UK’s RnB Indie Artist, is back for an exclusive interview on his pre-album mix tape entitled “Nine Ten Eleven” and his most recent FREE album “Hello Earth”. To date, there has been rave online reviews for; “Then & Now”, “Headlines”, “Kryptonite”, “Missing You Too” & “Not Giving Up” by a number of blogs including, Soulcultures, Yin & Yang, Stuff People Like, Barrel House Brooklyn, Inspire Magazine, Street Radio Mag and many others, who had over 150,000 accumulative downloads.

Q: How is your style of music different from other artists in your genre?

A: One thing I realised after I did “Then And Now” with Chipmunk for his Transition album is how signature my voice and writing style is. It doesn’t say “featuring Jermaine Riley” on the back, but I got calls from everyone saying “That’s you on that Chipmunk song right?!!”. I was really surprised at how many people knew it was me regardless. So I’d say my tone and style of singing/writing helps me to stand out. Hopefully that continues to shine through.

Q: If you had to choose to work with anyone in the music industry, who may that be?

A: Right now, I’m a huge fan of Ed Sheeran’s work. I’m loving his album and the way he writes. He makes you believe he’s lived every lyric and his melodies are amazing. I think we’d come up with some great stuff if we worked together.

Q: What is the inspiration behind your most recent album?

A: The inspiration behind ‘Hello Earth’ is simply my love for both music and comic books, Superman in particular. I really tried to give the best of me on this project and let the world know what I have to offer, creatively and vocally, as well as salute all my influences over the years; Michael Jackson, Usher, Mary J. Blige, Brandy, Boyz II Men, Drake and more.

Q: What type of message do you speak through your music?

A: That every artist should stay true to who they are and never give up. The journey’s never gonna be easy but true talent and passion will always prevail. Show the world that passion with every song, with everything you do.

Street Radio: How is your style of music different from other artists in your genre?

ISH: Our music is a mix of influences from gospel, jazz, funk, and R&B, coupled with soulful lyrics. We write and sing from our souls, and we have an irreplaceable lineup. Being married is a difference within itself. We have a bond that makes the music we create together a powerful force.

Street Radio: What challenges do you face as indie artists?

ISH: Trying to buck the trend of mainstream artists that downplay traditional values like marriage and black love is a challenge. We pride ourselves on the fact that we promote those things. As an independent band we have to do a lot of the leg work, as far as networking, promoting, researching, and footing the bill for all expenses as well. This is good though, because when great things come of it, we appreciate it more, and we know what it took to get to that point.

Street Radio: What is the inspiration behind your most recent album?

ISH: We named the album Pineapple Tuesday, because we both love pineapples and because they’re an aphrodisiac. Pineapple Tuesday is just warming up our audience for something amazing. Using the pineapples as an aphrodisiac, one random Tuesday night, led to Pineapple Tuesday becoming a brand of its own. It is a drink. It’s a lifestyle.

Street Radio: What type of message do you speak through your music?

ISH: ISH’s message emphasizes education, love, and positivity. We live as positive people who love and respect others. We don’t take life too seriously. It’s important to have fun. We mentor and educate daily, showing kids from the hood what love looks like.

“Kryptonite” – @Supersays British-bred Singer/Song Writer – Jermaine Riley

British-bred singer/song writer (and 1/3 of UK R&B group FDM), Jermaine Riley has been looking up to many a hero of R&B/pop culture for quite some time now. Michael Jackson being the first, as Jermaine spent hours in front of the TV as a child, emulating the icon. “I wouldn’t go anywhere without my white socks and black plimsolls, it didn’t matter what I was wearing.” he says. “I wanted to be him.”

Not only an adept dancer and entertainer, Jermaine’s song writing and unique tone have garnered the acclaim of fans, artists and producers far and wide. Most recently, such noteworthy talent skipped managers and publishers but landed him on platinum UK rapper Chipmunk’s new album Transition, as the voice behind the emotive autobiographical track “Then And Now”.

On the verge of releasing “HELLO EARTH” his free album, Riley drops “KRYPTONITE” a refix of Diggy Simmons “COPY PASTE” produced by Andrew “Pop” Wansel, Warren “Oak” Fielder. Using KRYPTONITE as a metaphor, Riley tells the story of a woman who is weakness. Fans of Riley eagerly await HELLO EARTH following the release of “THEN AND NOW” and “THE HOMELESS HERO” if KRYPTONITE is anything to go by they are in for a treat!

“Headlines” @Supersays (Drake Refix) – [Video]

On the night of the LONDON RIOTS, Riley and brother Shaun were home recording and were appalled to see his home town in flames and places he frequented with friends completely vandalized. The senseless destruction compelled Riley to air his thoughts on the situation through his music and penned a refix of Drake’s appropriately named track “HEADLINES”.
